Metro Transit System Map
I designed this map to supplement Metro’s static system maps. It provides an interactive overview of Metro Transit service. Selecting a route allows users to access the route webpage with a service description and timetables.
A design consideration for interactive transit maps is a tendency towards overlapping routes; in this case the data I linked to in the GIS server structures the data in this way. While this makes sense from a routing standpoint (routes travel along the same corridors), cartographically I could separate overlapping routes into parallel lines to make it easier to visualize the network and trace a trip.
Draft Network Redesign
Metro Transit is in the process of completely redesigning the bus network to increase service frequency and ridership. I created this map so the public would be able easily understand the proposed network and suggest ways to improve it. Bus routes are symbolized by frequency.
